Few things are more challenging than going through addiction recovery. For many individuals, not only is it difficult enough to stay sober, but stress, anxiety, and/or depression quickly set in, making this healing process all the more trying. What’s more, it can be hard to maintain confidence during such a time, and confidence is key to succeeding at recovery.

To help in your journey, Life Healing Energy shares some practical tips for how you can regain your confidence by improving your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Get tidy.

Freshening up your living environment can make a big difference in your recovery. Mess and clutter are known to cause stress and anxiety, as well as other forms of negativity, such as criticism, arguing, and complaining.

If this sounds like your situation, make time to clean up your home. Get rid of clutter, determining which items to keep, throw away, donate, and/or sell. Dust, vacuum, and wipe down every surface in every room. Don’t be surprised if you feel the stress melting away and your motivation to stay sober strengthening.

Establish a hygiene routine.

Personal hygiene is critical for anyone who wants to live a healthy life. And for people who struggle with addiction, hygiene is often neglected. During recovery, establishing a solid personal hygiene routine is one of the most important steps you can take towards regaining your confidence, staying sober, and getting healthy.

It's important to maintain your oral health in order to boost your overall health and well-being. Brush and floss your teeth every day, and take care of any mouth-related issues such as cavities or bleeding gums. In addition to caring for your teeth, make sure you're showering each day, taking care of your hair, skin, and nails, and getting plenty of sleep (which we’ll get to later).

Change your diet.

Nutrition plays a crucial role in your physical, mental, and emotional health. If your body is not getting the nutrients it needs through your diet, it can affect every aspect of your life in one way or another.

Improve how you look and feel by following a healthy diet. A good way to start is by limiting highly-processed foods and eating more whole foods, such as vegetables, fruits, grains, and lean proteins. Furthermore, incorporate depression-fighting foods like bananas, turkey breast, fatty fish, and walnuts in your diet.

Work out a lot.

Along with making dietary changes, finding an exercise routine that you like can transform your overall health and well-being. Not only will it enhance your appearance, but working out on a regular basis will help you stave off illness and disease, significantly boost your mood, and help you manage your stress day in and day out.

Whether you exercise by yourself or with others, there are many different activities that can do the trick (e.g., running, HIIT, yoga, etc.). And you don’t have to go all-in on a complex fitness regimen at first — starting small by walking or doing light stretches may be the most effective route if you’re new to exercise. To help stick to your exercise routine, be sure you have necessary items like a supportive bra, leggings or shorts and a pair of athletic shoes. For added motivation, invest in a smartwatch or a pair of wireless headphones. These small investments can add up to big changes.

Prepare for sleep.

Finally, do everything you can to get sleep. Those who battle addiction often have erratic sleep schedules, and it can be especially difficult to get into a rhythm when you’re recovering. Find some healthy ways to wind down at night and set up your body and mind for restful sleep. Take a hot bath, listen to calming music, read a book, do yoga stretches, meditate, and/or anything else that promotes rest so that you can get the sleep necessary for your body and mind to recharge.

Use Supplemental Therapies

Eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep and keeping a tidy home all are essential components to getting your life back on track. However, in addition to any recovery groups you attend, it’s important to consider supplemental therapies that can facilitate the healing process. To truly combat your addiction, it’s more than wise to address the root cause of your pain with a dedicated healer like Nicole Lawler. Through Life Healing Energy, she offers a variety of services like reiki, chakra balancing and crystal therapy to help you reboot your life.

Though it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, there’s nothing easy about recovery. And to succeed, you will need to build your confidence each day. Remember to tidy and clean your home, practice regular personal hygiene, and come up with a solid diet and exercise routine that works for you. Lastly, prioritize getting restful sleep and turning to supplemental therapies. In no time, you’ll realize how these simple steps can make all the difference in your quest for recovery.
