Setting resolutions can certainly feel like a chore and can even sometimes leave you feeling a bit like a failure if you weren’t able to keep them. Think about the usual pattern as it goes. At the end of the year, you might begin this resolution design process by assessing the past year. In your assessment of the prior year are all of the successes and what I now call ‘learning opportunities’. This process leads you to start to think about where you want to go from here, and what you would like to do, be, or have more or less of in the new year. At the end of the day, resolutions are truly nothing more than making minor improvements in your life for the upcoming year, based upon the events of the past year. So let’s lose the all too constricting resolutions and call them daily intentions to get the job done!
I love this time of the year. Particularly at this point in my life, because I realize that intentions are not chores, and any improvement I can make in my life is my personal growth. No matter how blessed you are in your life, there is always something better to strive for which will help you grow as a person. So think outside the box. Think of something that truly excites you. Maybe set a goal, and be mindful of an intention every day that will help you to attain that goal. Realize, too, that if said goal has yet to been attained by the end of the year, that your daily intention has brought you closer to attaining it every day! Still a win! Use intention in your daily life to bring about balance of the mind, body, and spirit. Use the power of intention to help you stay in the now and help you do your best every day. Make it enough to simply do your best every day, and to not become attached to a particular outcome. Understand that you cannot control an outcome and even if things that are less than magical or what you prefer in your life, practicing daily intention will lead you to greater happiness and your overall personal growth. This is all great stuff! Remember that truly, this life is about the journey….not the destination. There are no failures here; only learning opportunities. Your successes are quite simply, lessons teaching us that we were correct in the system we created to achieve the goal. Kudos to you when this happens! ‘Learning opportunities’ are also lessons in life. These are the lessons that show us we need to fine tune the system for achieving the goal as it was a little off. It’s not a failure if you worked your system; just a lesson teaching us to revamp and rework the system. Here’s to next time, and a better system! Know in your heart that everything you do for yourself daily is growth toward a better, happier, healthier, and more abundant you. One piece that we often forget about in this is that you should always be as gentle and loving with yourself everyday as you are for others. I too, have some ‘learning opportunity’ days in working my system, but at the end of the day, one of the greatest lessons that I have personally learned is to be very proud of myself and happy that I worked my system. That’s where the real growth is! Use the power of intention to attain goals or growth, and be truly proud of the daily work you do for yourself in mind, body and spirit! Don’t you deserve at least that much? You DO deserve that and much, much more! As with any of my posts, please share with anyone you feel could use some healing or inspiration for healing in their lives. I'm wishing you and yours the happiest, healthiest, and most abundant of New Years yet! Love & Light Nicole
